What is RockOm?

RockOm is the crossroads of music and spirituality (in its many and various expressions and faiths) for the artists and listeners who are moved by those expressions. It aims to be the premiere entertainment, sharing and networking web site for spiritually-inclined musical artists and music fans.

At RockOm, we believe there is a need for an all-purpose, all-faith blend of spirit and song. A place where you can discuss biblical themes in a U2 album or discover Trevor Hall's Neem Karoli Baba references. A place to have conversations about the bond between music and spirituality. A place to be inspired, challenged and introduced to new music, audio soundscapes and devotional rock that will encourage depth and transformation in your life.

What is RockOm all about?

RockOm is guided by five Core Values that inform all of our decisions and actions:

  1. Resonance (Encouragement)

RockOm will promote a culture of resonant, positive encouragement and growth through affirmation, cooperation, and life-giving energy. Similarly, we discourage dissonance (negative behavior and attitudes) both within the site and in the leadership.
  2. Theme and Variation (Respect of Individual Dignity)

Because RockOm respects the inherent worth of all individuals as unique yet interconnected sparks of the divine, we will treat all people with the dignity, love and understanding they deserve.
  3. Polyphony (Openness and Dialogue)

RockOm seeks to encourage relationships, conversations and understanding between people of all religious and spiritual practices and backgrounds.
  4. Harmony (Sustainability)

RockOm will make informed choices that reduce our company's ecological footprint.
  5. Accompaniment (Stewardship)

10% of all of RockOm's profits will be given back to aid rotating charities and organizations that make a difference in the areas of music education, spirituality, and compassion.

What do you mean by "spiritual" music? Isn't all music spiritual?

YES!

To elaborate:

  • Depth, Light, and Darkness

Any song, work or artist that reveals some amount of depth would be of interest to the RockOm community. The messages within the songs, however, can be about literally anything. At RockOm we believe in flinging open the gates and widening the boundaries of what society deems "spiritual." On the lighter end of the spectrum, music can evoke joy or bliss, a sense of calm or contemplation, or take you to a higher place where you lose yourself altogether. Darker works can evoke sadness, loss, fear, chaos and/or uncertainty and bring us face to face with the hasher realities of being alive. Both the light and the darkness (and everything in between) are equally real, equally a part of the whole.

  • Get out of the Way, Sucker!

Songwriters frequently describe their music as coming from beyond themselves; that they have to get out of the way and allow the divine to work through them. Likewise, listening to certain pieces of music without preconceived notions or filters can take the listener far deeper than listening with expectations. In both cases, the musical experience is deepened and starts to become "spiritual" when one gets out of the way.

  • Use Me!

Some of the music at RockOm is devotional, some of it for use in worship, some for contemplation, some for motivation or anchoring, some to simply rock out to, and some to revel depth. Similarly, the creation of music itself can be a meditation and a spiritual practice.

What does it cost to join the RockOm Community?

It costs nothing and never will cost you anything … even uploading your own music and establishing your own artist page is all free of charge! (User-uploaded music coming soon!) We believe music still has the power to change individuals and therefore change the world for the better. RockOm's time is ripe and we simply can't not go with it any longer!
